Balmoral Cairns

Explore the extraordinary 11 cairns built to honour various landmarks in Queen Victoria and Albert’s lives on this 6 mile circuit. The most famous of these is the touching pyramid built in honour of Albert.

Loch Muick and Lochnagar

The Loch Muick circuit is a family favourite. Just under 8 miles long, the walk takes a little over 3 hours around the majestic Loch Muick.

St Cyrus Beach

You can either just walk along the incredible sandy length of the beach and come back through the dunes, or you can climb the cliff for a breathtaking view out to sea. It is a nature reserve so take a lead for any dog.

Cruden Bay to the Bullars of Buchan

This is not a circuit, so either leave a car at either end, take public transport, or just walk back. You can also start at the Bullars of Buchan and just go as far as Slains Castle and then turn back. If you’re lucky, and in the right season, you may see puffins, but the dramatic clifftops are home to all sorts of other seabirds. Slains Castle is said to have inspired Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

Loch Kinord

Just under 4 miles, this easy route round the loch takes about 2 hours. There are points of historical and geological interest, as well as the chance to see some amazing birds on the water. Bring your swimming stuff if you’re feeling brave!
